i’ve made a ton of little things this year, and some bigger stuff too. some freelance client work, plenty of stuff for my day job, blog art, real art, zines, facebook event flyers that didn’t need to exist but did anyway… here are my ten favorites for this year, but it’s extremely pleasing to go through pages and pages and realize just how much i’ve actually accomplished without thinking about it.

Since posting about not listening to “4,” (BEYOND THE SINGLES GOD YES I HAVE HEARD PLENTY OF THE ALBUM JESUS I AM STILL A PERSON WHO IS ALIVE) I have made a real effort. And man there are some real gems on here. Get into it. Beyonce is the fucking queen. God I am embarrassing myself, right? You all knew this already, right? Ugh.

i met emma while i was in portland jumping through hoops drinking beer and eating hot dogs and she is so cool seriously i didn’t really talk to her until our last night because she was that cool and i get scared but we recently traded some work and i was like “wait she is gonna trade me her cool shit for my stupid ugly bullshit garbage?!” but she agreed and it was awesome.

so i am not the expert on personal health and fitness, but i am just going to put this out there. it’s the fucking holidays. stop beating yourself up, stop ruining delicious meals for yourself by feeling self-conscious, stop feeling awkward about candy gifts and chocolate coins and eggnog and gingerbread.
i love all of my friends, and all of my friends happen to be really pretty, handsome, attractive, stylish, well-dressed, awesome, and all those other things. i’m not being nice, it’s a fact. everyone i know is super cute. so when i hear someone say “oh my god i ate like three cookies somebody stop me,” it makes me a little sad. we are normal people. it is not our professional duty to be perfect bodies. we are not supermodels.
so this holiday, eat an extra latke even though it’s fried in ~300 calories worth of just oil and potatoes have no nutritional contribution to make. have a little more ham because someone spent forever cooking that. and have another fucking gingerbread man because that shit is fucking awesome. you don’t normally stuff your face, but it’s also not normally christmas. so just enjoy yourself and worry about the extra two pounds tomorrow.

WORDBONER, y u so obviously jacking ideas from people and selling them?
Tumblr Friends: please reblog the fuck out of this, as an artist-type it pains me to see a site like WordBoner blatantly copy an idea to profit off of it. Check out InflatedDeflated to see how obvious it is that WordBoner copied them. My friends started this art project for fun and since it’s gotten some attention in the past couple days it seems as though WordBoner didn’t enjoy that.
Wordboner drives me absolutely fucking crazy. I love when someone has an idea on the internet and it translates into an interesting and profitable project. And obviously, I am a big fan of hand-written expressions, half-thoughts, advice, and encouragement. But Wordboner is just done so poorly. Too-tight kerning, ugly hand-lettering, even the photo above… It’s one thing to make something for yourself or your blog (though I do think throwing tags all over it does change things), but when you’re selling expensive prints and t-shirts? Get it right. Also, it’s called “Wordboner” which makes it the CollegeHumor of tumblr-centric aphorism imagery. I’m happy that the creator is making a living doing it, but I’m also grateful that the people I follow on tumblr don’t make a habit of reblogging his content.
I’ve been seeing Inflated/Deflated around the last few days, and I think it’s great. The photos are fantastic and the lettering is nice. I love the idea of balloon messages, and have wanted to explore the idea more since this one piece from my “TALKING ABOUT FEELINGS” zine. I may have a chance soon too, now that I’ve got a little more spare change lying around.

GoDaddy Faces boycott over SOPA support
Major Internet companies have formed a united front in their opposition to the Protect IP Act and the Stop Online Piracy Act. Well, almost. One exception has been the domain registrar GoDaddy. In a op-ed published in Politico shortly after SOPA was introduced in the House, GoDaddy applauded the bill and called opponents “myopic.”
Do real people even use GoDaddy? They’re like the super Wal-Mart of domain name providers. They trick you into renewing domains, they trick you into paying for extra services, their user interface is absolutely fucking disgusting and unmanageable… they have a sponsored NASCAR driver. They’re an absolute shit-show, and this is just one more reason to groan every time I have to touch anything at all connected to their site.
